The UCI Nursery is a full-service grower/supplier of annuals, perennials, ground cover, ornamental grasses, cacti & succulents, vegetable starts, and native Utah plants. In addition to plants, we offer a line of seeds that are Non-GMO and Open-Pollinated, Heirloom varieties, harvested from plants grown on our premises. We hope you enjoy growing your own plants from this selection of our favorites.

The UCI Nursery program offers inmates a valuable opportunity to earn a horticulturalist apprenticeship over the course of four years of comprehensive training. The apprenticeship allows inmates to gain experience and credentials that can translate into genuine job opportunities when the inmate leaves prison.

With ten large greenhouses and more than two acres of garden and outdoor perennial area, the UCI Nursery is able to supply plants to a wide range of customers throughout Northern Utah. We offer the highest quality product and one of the largest selections of nursery stock in the state.

Inmate watering plants at the UCI nursery

Successful people are our primary product and offenders that work at the nursery can earn a 6,500 hour nationally certified horticulture apprenticeship, which is a valuable tool when seeking employment in the field after release from prison. During the apprenticeship, offenders learn everything about greenhouse operations: seed germination, transplanting, propagation, fertilizing, pest control, gardening and many other important skills.

The field of horticulture continues to grow in the community and there is a need for skilled labor. Many of the nursery and landscape customers that purchase product from us have expressed a willingness to hire our apprentices. In addition to jobs, the program here provides offenders an opportunity to work on themselves and there are many, many unseen and un-quantified benefits that come from working with and caring for living things in a natural environment.
