TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I am pleased to give a letter of reference for the Utah Department of Corrections, Correctional Industries Division. In 2007, UCI Data Services contacted me and asked if I would be interested in scanning some of my documents. Brigham City had already paid another company a lot of money for a software program and I had hired a part-time clerk to scan the documents for me. However, I was not happy with the software and it was not very user-friendly. So when UCI Data Services contacted me I thought maybe this was the answer. The price he quoted me was unbelievable cheap so I decided to give it a try. Someone from UCI drove to Brigham City and picked up all my documents and took them back to the prison. Data Services called me when they arrived and discussed the documents in detail with me - how I wanted them indexed, how I wanted them scanned, etc. They promised me they would have the documents returned in the same order they received them and that they would call me with updates (yea, right, I've heard that before). They were going to scan all the documents for me and create an index program for me. I was nervous and anxious about it. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. Data Services called me on a weekly basis and told me where they were in the process and asked me questions about the indexing I had set up. They were very concerned that the software program they were creating would be the kind of indexing I wanted. It was very refreshing to receive updates and to know that they were doing things the way I wanted them. After everything was scanned and the indexing and processing began, I started to speak with a Data Services Programming Clerk. He was very patient with me and was very concerned that the software program do what I wanted it to do, assuring me that it could be changed if I wanted anything different after I started using the program. It was very exciting when the boxes of documents were returned - exactly the way I had sent them. I received a CD with the software program and all the scanned documents a few days later. They did all of this for a little over $500 - unbelievable! The software program is unbelievably user-friendly. It is tailor made to how I wanted it, so I didn't have to change any of the documents to fit their program, they fit the program to fit my filing system. It has saved me numerous hours in research. I can e-mail the documents to staff or to citizens. As I used the program, the Data Services Programming Clerk was always available to answer my questions and was very patient with me. Several months later I scanned and indexed the documents myself and he was very kind in helping me through that process. I have very high praise for this program and the opportunity it gives the inmates to feel a sense of worth and accomplishment. But the main reason I am so willing to give a letter of reference is because of the great customer service I received through this process. I always got a live person on the phone when I called and they were always willing to help me, many times spending up to 45 minutes on the phone asking me questions on how I wanted the end result to be. They were always very pleasant and kind to someone who did not know what I was doing. I highly recommend the services of the Utah Department of Corrections.
